Overview

Information and communication

Exports from the Information and communication sector in 2025 grew by 134.6% compared to the previous year, while imports from the sector decreased by 0.8%. As a result, the trade balance was -753.1 million, 9.3% higher than the previous year.

Information and communication sector achieved positive growth in the foreign direct investment (FDI) stock at the end of 2024, which amounted to 37.4 billion, compared to the FDI stock of 2023, which was 31.7 billion.

The inflows of FDI in the Information and communication sector grew by 66.4% in 2024 compared to the previous year, whereas the outflows of FDI showed an increase of 42.7% compared to previous period. Thus, the net flows amounted to 5.7 billion in 2024, while in 2023, it recorded 3.4 billion.

The overall distribution of the employed in the Information and communication sector reached 1.2% in fourth quarter of 2025, decreased from last quarter by 0.12 percentage points (pp) and increased from a year ago by 0.16 pp.

For its part, the average weekly working hours was 42.7 hours in the third quarter of 2023, registering an increase of 0.4% compared to the previous period and an increase of 0.4% compared to the same quarter of 2022.

The operating revenues of the sector reached 239.4 billion in 2024, an increase of 5.6% compared to the previous year. For its part, the operating expenses amounted to 116.3 billion, showing an increase of 6.2% compared to the previous period. As a result, the operating surplus of the Information and communication sector was 91.4 billion, 4.8% higher than the previous period.

Points of Sale Transactions

In April 2026, the value of points of sale (POS) transactions amounted to 806.4 million in the Information and communication sector, being 4.7% lower than the previous month and 36.2% higher than the same month from the previous year.

Commercial Bank Credit

During April 2026, the Information and communication sector secured 26.8 billion in commercial bank credits, lower by 0.2% than the value of the previous month and lower by 1.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.

External Sector & International Trade

Exports and Imports

Exports of the Information and communication sector reached 123.6 million in 2025. The primary destinations for these exports were French Republic ( 36.5 million), United Arab Emirates ( 18.6 million), and State of Kuwait ( 11.3 million).

Trade Balance

In December 2025, the Information and communication sector recorded exports amounting 7.6 million and imports totaling 64.6 million, resulting in a trade balance deficit of 57.0 million.

In 2024, the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Inflow amounted to 6.3 billion, while the FDI Outflow stood at 614.8 million. Consequently, the FDI Net Inflow was 5.7 billion, reflecting an increased of 69.5% compared to the previous year.

FDI net inflow: It represents the difference between inflows and outflows of foreign direct investment inflows.

Distribution of the Employed

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the percentage distribution of employed people in Information and communication sector reached 1.2%, with 1.3% for men and 0.8% for women.
